Trueblood

They hand pick their grapes from low-yield vines as taste and sugar levels dictate. Trueblood is aged in French oak barrels for 13 months. They use a combination of new and older wood with a variety of toast levels. After a 10 day cold soak, 2002 was inoculated for primary fermentation and naturally underwent malo-lactic fermentation.

The syrah grapes come from Soscol Creek Vineyards in the southern part of the Napa Valley. Abutting the San Pablo Bay, this western-sloped vineyard has the benefits of warmth from long afternoon sun exposure, and cooling influences from the bay. This balance of warm days and cool nights gives the finished wine complexity of flavor and aroma as well as superior ripeness at harvest.

Stuart and Hope Goldie met at the University of California, Davis’ Viticulture and Enology Department. Their combined backgrounds include production (Opus One, Stag’s Leap Winery, Cakebread Cellars, Neyers Vineyard, Quintessa) as well as sales (American Wine and Spirits, Southern Wine and Spirits, Dean and Deluca).

2002 is their first vintage together.
