Owned by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, the winery produced its first vintage in 1989, although the vineyard has been producing exceptional grapes for 20 years. Tony grew up on the family farm in Texas, and called on his farming and engineering expertise to develop his first vineyard back in 1974. His intuition and attention to detail paid off as the vineyard quickly developed a reputation as one of the outstanding vineyards in Carneros while selling to some of the top wineries in the Napa Valley. After observing the success other wineries were having with the Truchard fruit, Tony decided to start his own winery using only fruit from his ranch.
