In 1981, Justin and Deborah Baldwin purchased 160 acres of raw land in the remote Adelaide Valley west of Paso Robles in California's Central Coast. This would become JUSTIN Vineyards. The land was originally homesteaded by Mennonite church members in the 1860s and was being used to dry farm barley for cattle feeding.
